Our hearts are unbroken

Change is inevitable.  Sorrow is a difficult part of life.  The loss of a beloved animal is extremely difficult to bear.  When we lost our oldest Australian Shepherd this past February, we were all heartbroken.  But as human beings, we are able to reason and understand that loss.  What added to the pain we were all feeling was our inability to console our two year-old Aussie.  She was left confused and lonely and there was nothing, at that moment, that we could do to stop her heartache.

That was until we brought this little girl home…

I stumbled upon her late one evening as I was just about to give up a months long search.

Within ten minutes, I was making arrangements to bring her home.

She arrived at the airport during a snowstorm, just last week.

Our two year-old Aussie was quite confused about this energetic bundle of fur that made a beeline straight for her.  After a few frantic minutes of being scared out of her mind and trying to run for cover, she investigated the yipping furball with legs and decided that she would keep her.

By the next day, they were fast friends.  Her patience with the puppy was immediate – which we were  thankful for since the little bugger decided that she likes to hang off of her big sister’s fur.

Over the past week, she has settled right in with the rest of the animals and we are already noticing a great herding instinct (and fearlessness that, no doubt, will get her into all kinds of trouble).

We will always miss our old Aussie.  No one can ever replace her in our hearts.  But there is always room for one more and this is just the sassy little gal to help all of us feel whole again.

Our broken hearts are healing.  Thank you, my little bold-i-locks!
